2019 1098T’s
Feb 17 all-day

Dear Student:
Email messages were sent out two weeks ago to both personal and USF email addresses to notify students that you have a 1098-T available to pick up electronically. 1098-T’s are used to determine your eligibility for claiming the Education Tax Credits on your Federal Income Tax returns.
Please take the time to read through all of the information below, as it is very important and will help answer many questions that you and/or your parents may have regarding your 1098T.
NEW IN TAX YEAR 2018, THE IRS MANDATED A CHANGE THAT ALL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES MUST REPORT TUITION PAID IN BOX #1. AS A RESULT OF THIS CHANGE, YOU WILL NO LONGER SEE BOX #2 BEING USED.
For tax year 2019, our third party vendor was unable to include detailed financial information on the back of the 1098T form. However, our IT department created an option in the student portal as a “work around”, so that you are able to extract all of your account detail for any year requested. To retrieve this detail, please log into your portal and select For Students, Tuition Bill/Account Summary, and then under Helpful Links, please select Annual Account Summary.

To help answer many questions, we have created an extensive 1098T FAQ on our website that can be accessed by clicking this link: https://www.stfrancis.edu/1098t/

As in years past, University of St. Francis has contracted with Maximus TRA Services to provide both the electronic and paper 1098-T’s.
If you do not retrieve your 1098-T electronically, one will be mailed to you. Paper 1098-T’s will not be mailed until near January 31st and may reach you sometime after that date.
If you are eligible to receive a 1098-T, you can retrieve one electronically now. Note: In order to retrieve a 1098-T electronically prior to printing you will need to consent to receiving it electronically in lieu of a mailed form. Be aware that you can get additional copies online in the future as well.
To retrieve your 1098-T electronically:
– Launch a web browser and go to: https://tra.maximus.com
– Click the “First Time Students” Button.
– Enter your full First and Last names and the last 5 digits of your Social Security Number.
– Click Submit.
– If records are present for you, you will be instructed to create an account. Follow the instructions on the website to create a free account and retrieve your 1098-T. If records are not found for you or you have difficulty creating account, use the “Help” link in the left menu.
As a friendly reminder, please be advised that employees of University of St. Francis are unable to give any tax advice. Please be sure to consult your tax advisor or accountant should you have specific questions related to the ways that you are able to use the information presented on your 1098T form.
Sincerely,
Jodi Schager, MBA ’96, ‘02
